Tom Sullivan, who has been blind since birth, will be presenting his one-man show at the Orpheum Theater this Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m. in honor of Mother’s Day to benefit a local charity. This production is scheduled to hit Broadway in 2015.
The show is titled “Adventures in Darkness” which includes a “blackout” demonstration to show the audience what it is like to be completely blind. The entire show including music and lyrics was written by Sullivan.
According to the Orpheum Theatre’s website, “Sullivan is best known for his acting roles on television shows like ‘M*A*S*H,’ ‘Touched by an Angel,’ ‘Designing Women,’ and ‘Knight Rider.’ He was also a correspondent for ‘Good Morning America’ from 1978 to 1983, sang the Star Spangled Banner at the 1978 Super Bowl and has written nearly 12 books including three co-authored by actress Betty White.”
All proceeds from Sunday’s show will benefit the Sight 4 Success charity for children’s vision founded by Dr. Peter Kehoe, a personal friend of Sullivan. Many local business in Galesburg have already pledged their support.
Sight 4 Success provides funding to underprivileged Galesburg area children who are in need of vision therapy services.
“Adventures in Darkness” will be in Galesburg for one night only at the cost of $15 for balcony seating and $20 for main floor seating.
